Indian Tourism !!

It was in second sem that we analyzed the case of "Bad Hoffgastein".....an Austrian spa and ski village getaway which had seen a drop in tourist footfalls over the years ... The think that amazed me in the case was the kind of stories that the data was revealing....the tourist destination had seen a drop in visitors from the non german speaking areas...it wasnt considered "english friendly" so to speak....

Since that case I have been wondering as to who, if at all, does all this analysis for Indian tourism... I mean we know that every now and then the tourism ministry comes up with these fancy figures showing the jump in tourist inflows....but a deeper analysis ???? I really wonder if any of the top bureaucrats actually do a deep study of all the data that they may be amassing ...

The facts are facts....although there have been sporadic effforts on our parts the marketing of the country to tourists needs a lot to be desired.... I think we have failed in the first step itself...we gotta begin inside first by improving infrastrucure, developing tourist spots, stopping conmen from making a fool out of foreign tourists....and yeah....doing something about tourists getting raped...please !!

Admittedly, a few states have done well....a case in point is kerala...a small time agency called "Stark" ahs been handling the promotion of Kerala and it has done a decent enough job of it....the latest campaign selling the monsoons is among the best anywhere.... u could go on to Goa....probably Rajasthan...but I cant see any further...

I have been in Pune for a year now...Maharshtra, west of pune, to put it mutely, is HEAVEN !! My first reaction when I went there during last monsoons was..." Who wants to go to Switzerland?" ....but the question again is.....whos promoting tourism here....what happened to the north-east...just a few ads in foreign magazines wont do the job....
