what specialisation????
Act One,Scene One...
Moi sitting on the window seat of the air conditioned staff bus and reading The Indian Express.That stupid lady boards the bus(dont know why,but I never got along well with her).
"hey Anish,so nice to see you.Good morning."
"oh hi,good morning."
"what specialisation are you planning to take?"
"err...nothing pakka yet."
"hmm....don`t take operations(she,like me, is from operations).I think you are more suited to marketing."
"(err...does that mean I am not suited to operations???) hmm....will see"
Scene Two.
The HR gal...
"Hey Anish,hws u?"
"fine."
"your letter is ready,collect it from Mr.X"
"ok..(was leaving the cabin)"
"hey wait...when are you going,what specialization?"
"june 1...haven`t decided on the specialisation."
"whyyyy???"
"don`t think I am cinvinced on any specialisation...so decided to defer the decision."
"ok...but don`t take HR."
"(smiling)...y do u say that?"
"arre no growth yaar...take marketing.it`ll suit u."
"hmm...will see."
Scene Three
The Supply Chain Manager,The Maintenence Manager and The Production Manager.
"hi...hw r u?"
"very fine sir."
"your colleague Mr .Y got a promotion....you could have got that one."
"yeah...hmm...err...guess so."
"anyway,what specialisation?...(knew it was coming)"
"(tired of free advice,decided to say something)....probably operations."
"arre...take HR yaar....no work....full jolly."
moi smiles.
"arre seriously,..take operations and u`ll be like us.....take HR and njoi life."
"HR well....am not very interested."
"then prolly marketing....that too is jolly."
"hmm...point noted."
Did not meet a single person who professed his own field....wonder why???.I ,for one,always had good things to say to people about operations.As far as the thought that HR jobs are jolly.Well,atleast in my company they are.
Decision Deferred.

hey good one and now my turn, dont take finance, then even u have to eat dirnk sleep(probabily not) balance sheet and markets.......so take HR no matter what on earth is happening they are always happy and u will realise that ur more powerful than PM at the time of performance appraisal...
have u noticed nobody at ur company wants that u experience the cumforts of their departments and wants u to take a jump into marketing.....remember HLL make even an IIMA person sell soap in bihar initially...HA HA HA HA

donot worry SCMHRD ha sa cafeteria approach..
rite now.no one can brand me finance guy..becoz i have taken enuf of marketing and IT subjects too...
the concept s to do a general MBA with focus on a few things..
like u r intrested in finance...u need not read all the finance subjects..u can take some exciting Mktg subjects liek MR..S&D..Suply Chain..U can take exciting IT subjects like Data Mining..
while doing ur corp finance..debt markets..capital markets etc..
u r lucky to have this approach at ur b-skool...

u know what thwy say about marriage...'don't marry someone u can live with.marry someone u can't live without' :)...ditto for choosing ur specialization. i for one was clear from day one (or shd i say day zero :D) tht mktg was my calling...i used to devour brand equity...ads...promos...products...i cant c myself doing anything but mktg...i knew it wen i decided to do an MBA...i did an mba only for mktg...its simple really - its all about passion - a passion bordering on obsession. im sure things will b a lot clearer once u get to campus, attend classes...keep talkin to ppl...and ya, do talk to ur seniors who comebk from their summers...u'll have a mch better idea then!! cheers!!

hey buddy....great blog!! i have no clue wht they teach u at a management institute...but whtever it is u gotta pick wht u like .... somethings thts gonna make u happy 10 years down the line and at the same time providing enough for u to not walk the line of poverty(yea and like thts an option for a mba grad)!!! but OR is my thing...
hey dont take any advice frm sivaram.....he opted for hr first...turned traitor n got into fin....dont ask me hw i got to kno...iv got my sources :D...
